Jocquese Whitfield (aka: JoQ) is a dancer/choreographer born and raised in San Francisco. He started his career steeped in the improvisation of freestyle hip-hop, and has added modern, classical, and Diasporic dance traditions over the last several years. Jocquese has been a member of City Shock San Francisco, F.B.C. (Funk Beyond Control), and UFO Movement, J. Jun Productions and M.O.M. (Mind Over Matter).
While pursuing studies in Dance and Theater, Jocquese’s movement vocabulary revisits the bold, rebellious statements of the 80’s as expressed through fashion, nightlife, and a love of the abstract. He is a shape-shifter and challenges assumptions of sexual identity in dance as he plays with gesture both “masculine” and “feminine”.
Jocquese is currently teaching Vogue at Dance Mission Theater and ODC Dance Commons.
